A roof window lets in twice as much daylight as a vertical window of the same size, creating a feeling of light and openness that is second to none. A good rule of thumb is to have a glazing area that is equal to at least 15% of the floor space in your room.

Fast installation

Replacing an existing roof window can take as little as four hours by a VELUX certified installer and most installations can be completed from within your home without the need for scaffolding or permits. If you would like to add additional roof windows to increase the feeling of space and openness in your home, they can typically be installed during a single visit to double your daylight in just one day.

Multiple operation types give you the flexibility to choose a roof window that meets your exact needs. Choose centre pivot for roof windows in higher installations and above furniture, or top hung for roof windows in lower installations for great panoramic views. VELUX INTEGRA lets you operate the roof window with a pre-paired remote control and can be connected to VELUX ACTIVE for automatic operation, or voice-controlled using the VELUX ACTIVE smartphone app.

The improved insulation of the VELUX roof window frame and glazing reduces the energy needed to heat your home by preventing cold from entering your home via drafts or thermal bridging.

One of the great things about a roof window is the ability to ventilate your entire home quickly and effectively. Three short 10-minutes airings per day greatly increase indoor air quality. If you open the roof window on an upper floor and a window on a lower floor of your home, you create the ‘Stack Effect’ which turbocharges the ventilation in your home. You can also open the ventilation flap on the roof window for constant low-level ventilation for a pleasant indoor climate.

Shield yourself from outside noise

A new rain noise reduction coating that reduces the noise of rain on the roof window glazing is included on all standard VELUX products. For additional noise reduction for homes in noisy areas (near airports, roadways or outdoor promenades), you can upgrade to a noise reduction glazing or add external roller shutters.

Protect your home from the heat

For homes in warmer climates, VELUX offers a heat protection coating that reduces the heating effect of UV rays as standard. However, to get the best heat protection, add an awning blind to block out the sun’s rays before they hit your roof window glazing, or even a roller shutter to completely protect your home from outside elements.

Easy to clean and maintain

Enjoy great views without having to worry about how you are going to clean your roof window. VELUX roof windows can be flipped on its hinges for easy cleaning from inside the home. And the easy-clean coating on the outside prevents dirt and grime from building up on the glazing. Moreover, the polyurethane (PU) coating option’s strong water-repellent characteristics is great for humid and heavily trafficked rooms, as it is easy to wipe clean.
