Home improvement tax deductions

Installing a roof window in your home brings many benefits to you and your family, including saving you money on energy expenses– so you are actually helping yourself while doing the planet a favourSince new roof windows are more energy-efficient than old, leaky windows, there are certain home-improvementtax breaks and credits available that reward homeowners who see the advantages of swapping inefficient windows for new ones.

 

To help you make the most of your roof window, we have put together a simple guide to some smart home-improvement tax deductions you might be able to take advantage of. 

Get a tax credit for an energy transition

After you install roof windows in your home, the Energy Transition Credit (CITE) allows you to deduct 15% of your taxable income, as long as you are within the limit of € 670 per roof window TTC (all tax included). If the tax credit you would receive is superior to the taxes you have paid, the excess amount will be refunded.

How much can I get?

The amount you receive is calculated according to the TTC total, with a deduction of benefits and subsidies received elsewhere. It is capped after five consecutive years at rates of:

  • € 8,000 for a single person
  • € 16,000 for a couple
  • € 400 per additional person

How do I know if I qualify?

Before you can claim the tax credit, you must meet a few requirements.

  • You must be the owner of the home/apartment, or a tenant
  • The home/apartment must be your primary residence, and you must have lived there for more than two years
  • The roof windows must replace old, single-pane roof windows or chassis 
  • Your expenses must be limited to € 670 per roof window
  • All related supplies and labour must have been provided by a RGE company (in the field of thermal insulation of stained glass)
  • You must not have extended the surface area of the home by more than 10%

For energy-improvement jobs involving the installation of roof windows, all related VAT costs for material and labour are reduced by 5.5%. 

How do I know if I qualify? 

In order to receive this VAT reduction, you must meet the following requirements: 

  • You must be the owner of the home/apartment, or a tenant 
  • The home/apartment may be your primary or secondary residence, but you must have lived there for more than two years 
  • You may not have increased the surface area of existing premises for more than 10 years

Which VELUX products are eligible?

Both VELUX Comfort and VELUX Complete Comfort roof windows are eligible, as well as all VELUX roof windows for flat roofs.  

All VELUX maintenance records (referenced by ED-) and VELUX bills (referenced by LS-) created during the installation of a VELUX Comfort or VELUX Complete Comfort roof window that are directly connected to the installation project may also be included.  

Reduced VAT may be used along with the following benefits, which are as follows:

  • Tax credit for an energy transition
  • Zero-rate eco loan
  • Aid of Energy Suppliers (Energy Economy Certificates)
  • Assistance of Anah and collective territories.
