If the pitch of the roof continues to the floor, there is an option to extend a VELUX roof window by installing an additional fixed window element directly below. These windows have a fixed sash and cannot be opened. Additional sloping elements are available in a range of finishes GIL (white painted or clear lacquered pine wood) or GIU (white polyurethane, maintenance free) to match other roof window elements. Combining a roof window with a GIL/GIU provides significantly more natural light for homeowners seeking more daylight.

VELUX Duo Vertical Extension solution

Vertical window elements are designed to be installed directly below a VELUX standard roof window. As the windows stretch nearly all the way to the floor, they ensure a great outwards view for the occupant. Options include either a vertical window element VFE that opens inwards using a handle at the top of the sash or a fixed VIU that cannot be opened. Maintenance-free windows (VIU) do not require repainting, but can be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth if needed.

VELUX Side-by-side solution

An effective solution to invite in more daylight is to install two identical size VELUX roof windows side-by-side. Depending on the available space, choose between centre pivot or top-hung roof windows. Centre pivot roof windows have a unique control bar at the top, making them easy to operate even with furniture placed directly under the window. Top-hung roof windows offer panoramic views when fully opened and are ideally suited to lofts.
